Art and HIV

Welcome to Art and HIV. My name is Carol Mendelson. For the past eight years, I have been helping art therapist Dan Anthon work with clients of Better Existence with HIV (BEHIV). This has been and continues to be a gratifying experience for all of us. My son Steve died of AIDS in February 1995. Steve’s death and my connection to you through BEHIV is the reason I have created this Website.

Before he died, Steve told me that he didn’t want his work to sit in a drawer. “Art is to be seen and shared,” he said. I agree. I hope the work you see on this site is meaningful to you and that you will want to share your own. It can be a drawing, painting, story, poem, or even a short video clip related to your HIV experience or those of friends or loved ones. This is not a contest. To submit your work for consideration, click here.

Please click here to view a list of artists and poets whose work is on this site. For more information about BEHIV, please click here.

Thank you so much for your interest, and I look forward to hearing from you.
